Program The Jenkins Hill Child Development Center, an independently run, nonprofit daycare center, has been a fixture of Capitol Hill since 1981, providing affordable, quality education and care for local children. Jenkins Hill currently serves infants and young toddlers from six weeks to three years old, a much needed service on Capitol Hill. Most of the children live on Capitol Hill, and the rest have parents who work in the area. The Center enjoys an active board of parent volunteers who work with the staff to provide a safe and stimulating environment where children are encouraged to grow socially, emotionally, physically and intellectually.
Philosophy Jenkins hill provides developmentally appropriate and educational programs to children from the age of six weeks through three years. We want their first school experience to be pleasant, warm and involving. Our small school size helps assure individualized, loving care for each child and their family.
Staff members realize the value of the teacher-student learning experience, as well as the value of learning and developing through play and peer instruction. We emphasize the development of communication skills among the children as well as between the child and the adult. Our programs are designed to promote positive self-concept through praise, understanding, trust and love. We provide activities that encourage success and an environment that encourages self-mastery of skills.
